" The spectator is the place where all the quotations on which a work is based are collected; the unity of the work lies in its destination, not in its origin. " Roland Barthes, The Death of the Author
On February 13th, Studio Orma inaugurates the first event of the "In-compresi" exhibition series at one of the most experimental and multifaceted food and wine spaces in the historic center of the capital, Rimessa FAB .
Marco Celentani, the evening's curator, is also one of three artists—along with Paolo Martellotti and Hamid Hoveyda—invited to present their works for debate and criticism from the audience.
Each episode will feature a different group of artists—painters, sculptors, filmmakers, photographers, musicians, and chefs—who will bring an original work and take turns introducing it to the audience.
The floor is then given to anyone in the room and to the other artists, who are invited to exercise a critical eye on the work, in an open, horizontal discussion moderated by an external figure.
Musicians, chefs, writers, urban planners, architects, and winemakers can also participate: a chef who defends an unpopular dish, a musician who doesn't find success, an actress or writer who feels misunderstood.
The format thus explores the friction and distance between those who produce art and culture and those who receive it, removing the barriers that too often impede discussion, dialogue, and a truly shared enjoyment. What Roland Barthes defined as the death of the author here becomes the artist's suspension, no longer the sole narrative source of the work but rather an intermediary who, by leaving the audience room for interpretation, allows art to reveal its meanings through the spectator's testimony.
